Domenico VIGGIANO

 



 Born in Irsina (Matera) on 25th February 1943 he has been living and working in Florence from 1960.
In 1960 he registered at the Accademia di Belle Arti of Florence where he studied sculpture, with
Antonio Berti and Giulio Pierucci, and engraving, with Rodolfo Margheri and Giuseppe Viviani.
He took a degree in 1964. From 1967 he has been teaching techniques of engraving,
first at the Accademia di Belle Arti of Lecce, later in Carrara and from 1972
he became chair professor of engraving at the Accademia di Belle Arti of Florence.
In 1972 Domenico Viggiano was elected assistant manager of the Accademia di Belle Arti of Florence,
he has been taking this position till 1983 when he assumed the management of the famous institute.
He was member of the Accademia delle Arti del Disegno;
president of artists' section of the Compagnia del Paiolo; president of the Gruppo Donatello.
From 1983 to 1995 he has been graphic adviser at the International School of Graphic Art
"Il Bisonte". Presidente of "Antonio Berti" Foundation for Youth Italian Sculpture.
In the 70's he made two big sculptures that, at the present time, are placed in two italian squares.
He has always taken up photographing also in a professional way publishing catalogues and books:
For two consecutive periods of two years his works of engraving took part to the traveling exhibition
of Italian Graphic organized by Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
